Top kids movies for 2012

There are a lot of exciting movies for the whole family in 2012, so get ready for a year of memorable films. From Dr Suess to a fun remake of Snow White starring Julia Roberts, to a young Spiderman and the fun of Finding Nemo in 3D - these movies are sure to thrill kids and adults in the coming months.

The Lorax (rated G)

From the makers of Coraline comes this animated zombie comedy for kids. Norman must use his powers to speak with the dead to save his hometown. In the process, he takes on zombies, ghosts and even grown-ups, proving that you don't become a hero by being normal.



The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

This prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy finds hobbit Bilbo Baggins travelling with 13 very different dwarves and the wizard Gandalfl to reclaim the treasure of the Lonely Mountain. Part two will be released next year.

After picking up some magic beans, Jack raises the beanstalk and accidentally opens a gateway between the world and the land of fearsome race of giants. Now Jack has to save the kingdom, meanwhile winning the love of a princess. Will also be shown in magical 3D.


Top Family Films Of The Year



This year, we saw a number of fantastic family films. If you haven't seen all these movies yet, catch them on DVD. Here are our favorite kids' movies of 2011-2012.

Arthur Christmas

The 3D, CGI-animated family comedy Arthur Christmas is witty, creative and fun. When Arthur Claus (Santa's son) realizes one gift was accidentally undelivered, he is determine to get the present there before Christmas morning. If your kids have ever wondered how Santa delivers all those gifts in just one night, now they can find out.

Rango

Released in March, Rango (voice: Johnny Depp) is about a pet chameleon who finds himself in Dirt -- a lawless outpost town in the Wild West. This is a fun, smart movie that is enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

Rio

From the director of the Ice Age trilogy, this movie features a blue macaw named Blu (voice: Jesse Eisenberg) who is sent from Minnesota to Brazil to save his species. He must win the heart of a female macaw, Jewel (voice: Anne Hathaway).

Born To Be Wild 3D

This documentary is short (only 40 minutes) but worth seeing. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the film features young orphaned orangutans and elephants that are nurtured, cared for and then returned to the wild.

Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom Of Doom

Po (voice: Jack Black) is back and now a kung fu master. Po and The Furious Five join forces with another group to try to defeat the evil emperor peacock, Lord Shen. If you were a fan of the first film, you'll like this one, too.

The Lion King 3D

This is the 3-D re-release of Disney's 1994 animated classic. So, it's not a new movie -- but how could we leave it off the list? Everybody loves The Lion King, and you'll love it again in 3-D. If you have young kids who've never seen the original, then this movie is a must-rent.

The Muppets

People young and old have loved The Muppets for decades and they still do. The 2011 film was met with great reviews from critics and viewers alike. If you are a fan of Sesame Street or the previous Muppets movies, this one is a must-see.

Other 2011 movies worth watching include Winnie the Pooh, Puss in Boots and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
